Happy july Birthday to
I hear we didn’t have a great turnout for the June meeting. I guess I have to take the blame for that since a good number of us were in San Sal. We all had a great time. The weather was nearly perfect and the diving was terrific! San Sal is my favorite Club Med because everything is consistently good. As I said while we were there, they treat us as though we are celebrities. The bonus for me was a hammer head shark encounter. My first ever!
We are well into dive season so check out the calendar and join us for some fun activities. We have quite a few great events planned for this summer. Please remember that you are not officially on an event until you have paid. Paying for a dive trip at the boat is not really acceptable unless you are a last minute sign up. Please make your payment at the same time that you sign up for the trip.
Don’t forget our annual beach party on Fort Lauderdale Beach on Saturday July 27. There is no charge for this event so just show up. See the details on the web site.
I’m sure most of you are aware that the end of July brings the Mini Season for Florida lobsters. This year it falls on July 24 and July 25. The regular season begins on August 6 and runs through March 31. We have been seeing lots of lobsters on the reefs. I think it’s going to be a good year for catching them. If you plan to participate this year be sure you have a valid fishing license and a lobster permit. Please, please keep in mind that no amount of lobster is worth an injury. There are a lot of people out there on the water that either don’t know the rules or disregard them, especially during Mini Season. Please be careful and dive safely.
Please mark your calendar for the July meeting, Wednesday July 3. Remember that we are having a gear sale. Bring your gently used gear to the meeting, put a suggested price on it and hopefully someone else will want it. Hopefully some of us will be able to get rid of some gear we are not using and others will find treasure. It should be fun. See you there.
Live long and lobster.
