President's Message

        ~ By Cheryl Teugel s

This year has been a winter of many cold days, leaving us waiting anxiously for the sun to shine bright and warm.  But the opportunity to watch Barry’s slide show, definitely gave us that sense of what great days are soon to come.

Our February calendar opened up with a couple of diving opportunities.  The first scheduled dive was with Kim Hunziker out of the Miami Beach Marina aboard RJ’s boat.  Then Pete Stephinson and Dave Schneider took a group of us out in the Palm Beach area in search of Lemon Sharks.  The month then ended in good cheer with great food and friends gathering at Oleta State Park.

Speaking of friends, Sandra Soler spoke to us briefly during the February General Meeting about assisting the Marine Archaelogical  Council, Inc. in gathering some underwater information to further their studies.  Please join her on a fun dive scheduled Saturday, March 19th diving the Copenhagen, just to get us back in the water before our explorations begin.

We also have a great day of diving scheduled down in the Keys with Dave Schneider.  Please see Dave for more details about his trip with Captain Slate in Key Largo on Sunday, March 13th.

For those of us who are early risers on a Sunday morning, Joe Smariga invites us to dive with him off his boat departing out of John Lloyd State Park, March 20th.  A good time is surely to be had by all.

Don’t forget that while our weather is still too cool for some of us to go diving, it’s a great time to bring our dive equipment in for an annual servicing.  Safety is always our number one priority.

So, wipe off the dust from your BC, check the mouthpiece out on your regulator and check out the calendar for some fun things to do this month.  Don’t forget the Marine Flea Market comes to town starting Thursday, March 31st.

  See ya soon!!!

OUR MARCH MEETING PROGRAM

TERRY HUBER  -  PETER HUGHES DIVING, INC.

In conjunction with our SFDI trip to Papua New Guinea in October and November,
we will present Terry Huber, Group Sales Manager from Peter Hughes Diving, out
of Miami Lakes.  Even if you're not going with us on this exciting trip,
travel vicariously with Terri, as she takes us around the world with the Peter
Hughes Dancer Fleet.

A little history - in 1986 Peter Hughes and Divi Resorts converted a 100' oil
field crew boat into an 18-passenger boat to carry scuba divers to areas not
easily accessible to land based dive operations.  In 1991, Peter re-introduced
the Sea Dancer liveaboard to the scuba diving public as the first in a fleet of
luxury scuba diving vessels known today as the Dancer Fleet.  Since then, Peter
has continually raised the bar for luxury scuba diving liveaboards, and Terri
will tell us all about it.

She'll present a DVD of the fleet, including each of the destinations Peter
Hughes visits along with excellent underwater and topside videography,
especially highlighting Papua New Guinea.  So, come and hear about modern
liveaboard life, and, if you're going to Papua New Guinea, you'll get a
fabulous foretaste!
