President's Message

        ~ By Cheryl Bartek-Teugel

A Happy and Healthy New Year To All!!

The Year 2005 brings us a change in E-Board Staff.  A warm welcome to Melissa Ames  Assistant to VP of Membership, Pete Stephinson  VP of Calendar, Kim Hunziker Assistant Treasurer, Karyn Amster VP of Programs, Dave Schneider our Editor, Tina Schneider our Sargeant of Arms , and all Members at Large,

2004 went out with a great time had by all at the Holiday Party.  The food was delicious and plentiful.  The Hams and Turkey provided by The Club were carved by John Kansman, until nothing was left on the bone.  Joe Smariga and Donna Eades made sure no one had an empty glass, as the DJ played our favorite holiday tunes and alot of great dancing music sent our feet up on the dance floor.  Thanks to All for making the night a success, and a special “Thanks” goes out to our volunteers who helped put this party together.  Kudos To Everyone.

This year we have plans to schedule alot of events.  Fred Miller is organizing a trip to Papua, New Guinea, Pete Stephinson has a Club Med Trip scheduled for Turks and Caicos, Joe Smariga has a Private Boat Trip to Bimini mid year, and Lou and I will be looking into setting up and hosting a Keys Weekend during the last half of the year.

I want to take this opportunity to “Thank You” for electing me as your Club President.  I look forward to a Great Year of Planning Fun Events, Working with the E-Board Staff on Various Agendas, and Engaging You, our Membership, in Getting Involved.

Cheryl

January 5 meeting program:

Wacky Re-Gift Exchange IV:
Revenge of the Big Shoe

On January 5 we will have our forth annual "Wacky Re-Gift Exchange" at the general meeting.  We are sure you got a Hanukah or Christmas or or Kwanzaa or holiday or birthday gift that made you say "thanks, but you really shouldn't have."  Wrap it up and bring it to the January 5 meeting and see if you can get something better!

Here's how it works.  Bring along an unused, unwanted gift...look around, you know you have at least one somewhere...and wrap it real purty-like.  Everyone who brings a gift gets a raffle ticket.

We will draw the tickets in "Chinese Auction" style.  The first person whose ticket is pulled gets the pick of the unopened gifts, and must open it in front of everyone.  The second person whose ticket is pulled can take the first person's gift away from them, or choose another unopened gift.  If they take the gift from the first person, the first person gets to go back and pick and open another gift.  The third person whose ticket is pulled can pick a third unopened gift, or take a gift away from the first or second person, and so forth.

Yes, it takes awhile to go through all the gifts and you will not want to miss the fun.  This is the most hilarious event of the year.  Actually, the majority of the gifts are nice items, just unwanted by the original recipient.  Surprisingly, at the end of the evening, nearly every unwanted gift goes home with someone who actually wants it.  See you January 5, gift in hand!  You are not required to participate, but if you don't, you'll probably regret it!
