Grab your nets, tickle sticks, and your lobster bags, because it’s lobster season once again.  Mini season opens at the end of this month (July), and the regular season opens on August 6th and stay opens till March 31st, with plenty of time to fill the freezer with all those tails.  As always dive safe and make sure you measure the tails and stay within the legal limits.

 

There are a lot of events going on in August on the calendar, from private boat dives, charter dives on American Dream II, Lady Go Diver out of Hillsboro, RJ Diving out of Miami and a Blue Moon 2 tank night dive on Saturday, August 28th.  For social events, there is a dinner and bowling night and an Uncle Funny’s Comedy Club night.   And don’t forget the Key’s Weekend on August 20-22nd.

 

For our August club meeting, we will be having a Mini Dive Shop night, featuring a few Dive Boat operators and Dive Shop’s, giving a short presentation of their dive operation.  There will also be a slide show and video show on the highlights of the Cozumel trip from last month.  Plus there will be a special surprise during the break, before the tank raffle giveaway.

  • July 28-29: Lobster Mini Season....yeahhhh!!!
  • July 31: 7:00pm till ??? " Casino Night" at the Hollywood Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino (directions here). Meet Cheryl and Lou Teugels at the Blue Plate Restaurant
  • August 4: General meeting. RAMADA INN FORT LAUDERDALE AIRPORT, 2275 State Road 84.  [Driving directions here] [Map here]  NOTE: additional parking on west side of Ramada.
  • August 6: Opening Day of Lobster Season 
  • August 7: 8:00 Show, 8:15 GO,  Private Boat Dive. John Loyd State Park. See Joe Smariga for Details.
  • August 8 : 8:00am Show, 8:30 Go, Dive the American Dream II with Fred Miller and  Cheryl Teugels, Two Tank Dive. $ 40 includes Tip.
  • August 9 : 7:30 PM: SFDI Executive Board meeting at Connections for Business, 2843 Pembroke Road, NE corner of I-95 and Pembroke Road.  Members please feel free to sit in and join us! 
  • August 12 :7:45pm, Comedy Night - Uncle Funny's with Ski and Michelle
  • August 13 : 7:30pm- Dinner and Bowling -Join Cheryl and Lou Teugles for dinner at Shorty's Bar B-Q Restaurant and Bowling at Don Carter University Bowl in Davie
  • August 15 : 1:00pm Show, 1:30 Go -Charter Boat Dive aboard " Lady Go Diver " located atThe Cove Marina, Hillsboro Boulevard and the Intracoastal Waterway. Join Pete Stephenson and Dave Schneider for a two tank dive.
  • August 20-22: Keys Trip, Join Cheryl and Lou Teugels for a Weekend in the Keys. Hotel Reservations at     La Siesta Resort in Islamorada. Saturday Morning Dive aboard D/V Seafari out of Tilden's Scuba Center located at Hawks Cay Resort Marina
  • August 28 : 7:00pm Show, 7:30 Go, " BLUE MOON DIVE " See the Coral Spawning during a Night Dive aboard the American Dream II, with Fred Miller and Donna Eades, $45 includes Tip.

  • September 11 : " SFDI 30th Anniversary " Seafood Festival
  • December 11:  Annual Holiday Party at I.T. Parker Center in Dania Beach.

Proposed Amendment to Constitution

The Executive Board has Proposed the Following Change to the Constitution of South Florida Divers Inc.

 ARTICLE V  - OFFICERS & EXECUTIVE BOARD

 Section 2 (g)  Members At Large - The Election of the positions of Members at Large will elect one officer

 to the board for every 100 active club members limited to a maximum of five new officers. The number of     members at large shall be reduced, to zero if necessary to correspond to the number of members of the club 

at the commencement of each annual election meeting.

    The Proposed Change would change the ratio of  Members at Large, From" One officer to the board for Every 100 active club members limited to a maximum of five new officers ", To "One officer to the board for Every 25 active club members with a maximum of TEN ". 

THIS AMENDMENT IS BEING PROVIDED IN WRITING TO THE MEMBERSHIP AND WILL BE VOTED UPON BY THE MEMBERSHIP AT THE AUGUST 2004 MEETING. THIS AMENDMENT SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE UPON IT'S ENACTMENT.
